Delaware County Broadband Expansion Project

We are proud to partner with Delaware County to bring our reliable, high-speed internet to underserved and unserved neighborhoods in our communities! Please read the full story from Delaware County on their website: Broadband Expansion Announcement.

High-speed internet has become an essential service, especially as more people have begun working and learning from home. We started Consolidated Fiber to help connect our members to the future, and we are excited to partner with Delaware to extend that connection.

How will I know if service is available to me?

We have begun the construction process, and plan to begin opening service to impacted areas this spring. We will notify households with door hangers and mailers when we are building and when service becomes available. You can check fiber service availability any time by typing your address into our map, found here.

 FAQs for Consolidated Members

Is this project going to cost Consolidated members?

No. Delaware County received federal funding to bring internet service to underserved and unserved communities. They are using a portion of that funding to hire us to bring our fiber-to-the-home internet to specific areas in the county.

Why is Consolidated providing fiber service outside of its service territory?

In addition to helping the underserved and unserved in our surrounding communities by giving them access to reliable, high-speed internet, this project stands to create long-term benefits for both our members and communities:

  • More of Delaware County will have access to excellent internet, helping neighborhoods thrive, empowering families to move to more rural areas without sacrificing their ability to connect, and supporting the continued development of the local economy.   
  • As your local cooperative, we are not driven by profits. Our rates reflect the costs we pay to provide you with reliable, high-speed internet service. Bringing more subscribers to our fiber network means that the costs of building and maintaining our network will be split among more people, helping us keep our rates down.

Will this project impact Consolidated’s current fiber construction plans for within Consolidated service territory?

No. Our partnership with the county enables us to bring on additional contracted crews who will complete the extension work. Construction within our territory is still moving forward as planned.

Delaware County Broadband Survey

We started Consolidated Fiber with the goal of bringing reliable, high-speed internet to the underserved in our rural communities. We are working hard to make our fiber-to-the-home internet service available to all our members as safely and quickly as possible, but we know that there are others near our service territory who need better service options. 

From now through December 4, Delaware County is asking residents and business owners in the county to take a brief survey to report on the internet options available to them. While our focus is on our members, we know that our communities cannot reach their full potential until everyone has access to the internet service that they need.  

If you have Consolidated Fiber service, this is a great opportunity to show off your internet speeds and let Delaware know that your area is covered. We also encourage you to share this survey with friends and family in Delaware so that they can help the County and the FCC understand which areas are in need of better internet service. It only takes a few minutes, and Delaware needs as many residents as possible to respond.

Share Your Internet Reality

Help rural Ohio get better internet!

We are partnering with electric cooperatives and rural organizations across Ohio to share the true reality of internet coverage in our communities. The federal government has tens of billions of dollars available to fund broadband projects that bring reliable, high-speed internet to unserved or underserved areas. We need your help to make sure that funding benefits those who need it most!

Please take a few minutes to review the new National Broadband Map from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This will allow you to see if the internet coverage at your location is accurately represented, and to challenge the map if it isn’t. If the government map shows that you have good internet coverage, they will not approve funding for broadband projects in your area.  

All challenges must be filed by January 13, 2023, to ensure that the map is revised before funding decisions are made this summer. This will give rural Ohio the BEST chance to access the funding it needs to connect. 

How to Submit an Availability Challenge: 

  • Review the FCC National Broadband Map 
  • If the coverage is correct at your location, no action is required 
  • If the coverage is incorrect, click or tap “Availability Challenge” and follow the on-screen prompts. 
  • Fill out the short form that appears 
  • Repeat the process for any additional inaccurate provider listings (there may be more than one) 
  • Ask your friends and family to report their internet experience by sharing this information.

Why does this matter to Consolidated? 

As a rural cooperative, we are committed to helping improve life in our communities. In today’s world, our communities need access to high-speed internet to learn and connect, attract growth, and thrive. Though we do provide fiber-to-the-home internet through Consolidated Fiber, this project is bigger than us.  

We started our fiber project to serve our members when no one else would. We are not out to make money; we are out to make sure that everyone who wants great internet can get it – regardless of who’s providing the service. This project is about our members, rural Ohio, and rural Americans everywhere who are underserved.
