New! Load Control Map

What is load control?

Load control is a method of reducing energy use to prevent new peaks. When energy use reaches a new peak during times of high use (like a heatwave or cold snap), electricity becomes more expensive for everyone. During these times, our grid operator will send out a “peak alert” and load control will likely go into effect.

Load Control Map

Our interactive load control map updates automatically when our power supplier lets us know that load control is expected or in progress.

Click on the map to view more information about certain areas, or tap on the magnifying glass icon to search for your address. Once you’ve found your location, you can use color key to see if load control is expected or in progress in your area today.

What should I do during a peak alert?

We can all play a part in preventing a new peak. Peak alerts generally occur between the hours of 2-8 p.m. in the summer, when temperatures are high and more people are at home. You can help keep costs down for everyone by reducing your energy use until temperatures fall.

Members who participate in our Cool Returns program receive a monthly rebate to keep a radio control switch on their heat pump or water heater. When load control is in effect, the switch activates and turns the appliance off until the peak risk subsides. Learn more about peak alerts and Cool Returns here.
