Consolidated Cooperative Invests in Morrow County With Grant for Development Site at State Route 95 and Interstate 71

MOUNT GILEAD–Consolidated Cooperative has granted $9,250 in funding toward the Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment for the Mid-Ohio Commerce Site, a property now available for commercial, residential, and light industrial development located at the northeast intersection of State Route 95 and Interstate 71.

The study is required to prepare the 87-acre area for potential investors by ensuring that it is construction ready for immediate development.

“With the assistance of Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives (OEC), we are pleased to help fund the environmental assessment of this property,” said Dan Boysel, Manager of Economic Development and Sales, Consolidated Cooperative. OEC and local electric cooperatives often partner to grant assistance to landowners for the development of construction ready sites.

“It is the mission of the co-op to enhance the quality of life of our members and the communities in which they reside and work,” Boysel said. “Ensuring that this property is ready for commercial businesses and light industry benefits our entire region.”

Boysel said the cooperative looks forward to closely following progress with the Mid-Ohio Commerce Site’s development. “The co-op is committed to working with the property owner, Ryan Lanker and his family, along with community, county, and state officials, to develop this strategically-located piece of land. We are excited about the future economic impact it will bring to our region.”

Consolidated’s Economic Development Exec Receives Honor

Mount Gilead, Ohio — Consolidated Cooperative’s Economic Development Executive, Brad Ebersole, was recently recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow for his contributions to the Rotary Club of Delaware. Brad, a Rotary member, received the honor because of his support for the Delaware Rotary Club’s largest annual fundraiser, Taste of Downtown Delaware.

This was the fourth year for the event that benefitted two local organizations:

  • Delaware County Hunger Alliance
  • Delaware Rotary Club Foundation

The Delaware County Hunger Alliance helps local food pantries, assists with mobile pantry distributions, and spearheads many other projects to help feed those in the community who are without enough food to eat. The Rotary Club of Delaware has donated more than $40,000 to the organization over the past four years. This year, Rotary members presented Delaware County Hunger Alliance with a check for $14,000 raised during Taste of Downtown Delaware.

The Delaware Rotary Foundation supports various community programs, activities, and needs, as well as contributes to local, national and international projects coordinated by the Delaware Rotary Club. Scholarships and grants to area individuals and organizations are made possible as a result of donations, along with volunteer fundraising efforts of Delaware Rotary Club members. In fact, one of the criteria for achieving the status of Paul Harris Fellow is the contribution of at least $1,000 to the foundation.

“I want to express my appreciation to Consolidated Cooperative’s management team for allowing me to dedicate time to such a worthy cause as this year’s Taste of Downtown Delaware,” said Ebersole. “I appreciate the co-op’s support and commitment to community, not only for this event, but for various other projects and events throughout Consolidated’s service territory.”

Ebersole also added, “I am extremely humbled by and grateful for the honor of being named a Paul Harris Fellow. It is such a privilege to serve, and I would like to thank my Rotary peers for the recognition.”

Morrow County Youth Represent Consolidated Cooperative on D.C. Youth Tour

Alesia Tobin and Kate Schmidt, both from Cardington, attended the Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., from June 14-20, as delegates representing Consolidated Cooperative.

The Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives Youth Tour is an annual youth leadership program for high school sophomores and juniors from families served by electric cooperatives. On the trip, delegates visited the nation’s capital and its many famous and historic sites. They also learned about the cooperative business model and met members of Ohio’s congressional delegation on Capitol Hill.

Tobin, the daughter of Nina Cantrell and Ashley and Paul Tobin, and Schmidt, the daughter of Georgeann and Michael Schmidt, were two of 31 delegates from the state of Ohio – and 1,833 delegates from electric co-ops across the country – who participated in this year’s Youth Tour.

Sites on this year’s Youth Tour included the United States Capitol, the Vietnam and Korean War memorials, the Abraham Lincoln and World War II memorials, the Smithsonian Museums of Natural History and American History, the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Gettysburg battlefield.

Virtual Townhall Held For Ostrander Residents

Consolidated Cooperative’s President & CEO, Phil Caskey, hosted a Virtual Townhall Meeting for residents of the Village of Ostrander and the Meadows of Mill Creek. The event took place Thursday evening, June 13, with 55 attendees logging in for the meeting.

The topic of discussion for the townhall meeting was Consolidated’s expansion of natural gas service into the Village of Ostrander. The status of the project was discussed, and Caskey responded to questions from attendees. A full replay of the meeting is posted here.

Scholarship and youth tour winners announced

The introduction of co-op scholarship winners and youth tour attendees was a highlight of the most recent Annual Meeting of Members.

Scholarship winners were Madeline Weisburn, Paige Milhon, Nathan Johnson, and Jonathon Gartner; and youth tour winners were Alesia Tobin and Kate Schmidt.

Also, we would like to extend special recognition to Alexa Draper, currently a senior at Buckeye Valley High School. She was awarded a Consolidated scholarship but had to decline it after receiving a full tuition scholarship from Miami University.

Congratulations goes out to Gracie Hinkle for winning the new $500 educational scholarship offered at the meeting. To be considered for the scholarship, entrants had to be a high school senior with their parent or guardian an active member of the co-op, and they had to be present at the annual meeting to win.

Light up your life.
